Rules

You must obey the rules whenever you use the computer or tablets.          Stay in your seat.                                                                                                                                              Only go on sites your teacher knows. If you are not sure about something ask a question.

Institution Background and Purpose of the Policy

Institution Background Internet is provided at the Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School via the standard service the Ministry of Education Technological and Vocational Training facilitates using local service provider Digicel.   However, as the department in question (the Special Unit) is on the bottom floor, the internet connection is very poor and the signal is weak.   A separate internet connection was privately acquired for the Department to allow teachers and students to access the internet for the purposes of teaching and learning.   This means that separate guidelines must be put in place to govern the use of this internet connection and technology.         In terms of the student body, the Special Unit caters to thirty-nine students with varying degrees of learning disabilities.   The language of the AUP has therefore been tailored to meet the level of understanding of the students in question.

Definition and Research Background

What is an AUP? AUP stands for Acceptable Use Policy .   Technology and technology devices are educational tools, and must be properly used to be effective.   An AUP establishes parameters for the use of devices and internet service.   These devices and services must then be used in an acceptable manner by all those who agree to use them.   An AUP can be effectively used to control the use of smartphones, other personal devices, software, the internet and the use of all digital technologies at an institution.   Once signed, it becomes a legally binding agreement.
